09.10 - 09.23 - Alaska

The 9 last days were one of the best time of my life.
I have been to Alaska! This is one in a lifetime experience! I am very happy that I was able to get to that spectacular part of the world!
How could I describe it in the best way? I mean I could spend hours and hours writing down my experiences, stories, scenes and everything else that just happened to me. The number of app. 2200 pictures can tell you that have seen a lot:)
Alaska!!!!!!!!

Anyway I share some pictures with you dear reader and try to give you a bit of that long story.
Getting ready for a 9 days trip in a carry-on suitcase and a backpack is not an easy thing in Alaska, especially when I think back how I traveled to the lake Balaton with 1 big luggage and a big back-pack for a week in sun-shine not in Alaska:D
Landing to Minneapolis! Wohoo! One of the biggest american airport hub in the US. Its size is actually bigger than my village in Hungary. Impressing.
:D Norwegian Pearl tag on my bag. The physical evidence that I have a valid booking to a stateroom on a huge cruise that is among the biggest ones in the world.
Before we boarded on the cruise we spent one night in america's 1# hostel Seattle City Hostel. It was not that amazing anyway.
We had time for an abundant sightseeing in Seattle downtown. This is Seattle's symbol the space needle. It was WOW!
First time glimpse at our cruise:) We boarded on the Alaskan Way. Couldn't have been more stylish:)
First step on a cruise!!!!!

That is how it looked like. 13 real decks plus body. We live on the deck 11 forward in the stateroom 10003.
Departing and leaving Seattle in the background
Cruising!
First meal out of the infinite:) Unlimited food supply for a week!!!! OMG!!!! That made me so happy all the time!
Despite of cruising to Alaska we had breakfast every morning outside at the buffet. Wasn't it amazing?
Arriving to the first destination, Juneau. That is the capital city of Alaska. We also went ashore in Skagway, Ketchikan, Victoria Island (British Columbia) and Vancouver.
Alaska!
I didn't see bears but I smelt them, if it counts:) I saw whales, salmons, bald eagles, mountain goats, seals, killer whales though.
For a fisherman this paper means a lot.
It means that they arrived in safe.
A typical forest in Alaska.

Perfect composition - with the Mendenhall Glacier in the background
Without comment - pure nature

Cool looking glass

Andris at the Yukon territory sign in Canada. The place where the whole gold rush had been played.
For those of you who asked me to take a photo of a polar bear. Isn't it cute?
Scenic view I. - Carcross (Yukon)
Scenic view II. - Tormented Valley

Klondike Gold Rush National Park
Everything started in 1897 along the Yukon and bloomed in Skagway, AK.
Scenic view III. - This lake is on the same latitude as the Loch Ness. Native American tributes believe that a monster lives in one of the lakes just like in Scotland.
Some snacks after the three-course breakfast...
 ...on the aft
This is it! This is Alaska!
View from inside.
We saw so many glaciers, fjords, and many other cool geological structures.
We were in the heart of the Glacier Bay National Park, which has the size of Connecticut (half of Hungary). The only way to reach the national park is with cruise.
It is truly one in a life-time experience. The spectacular John Hopkins Glacier.
That is how we rolled:)
Not bad.
Heading toward the beauty. There were no human structures in a 60 miles radius. 100km sugarú körzetben minden érintetlen volt.
A big piece of ice was breaking down ...
...in front of our eyes:)
The territory of the Glacier Bay National Park
The weather was ever-changing and unpredictable in Alaska. We have been told so lucky that we got that beautiful weather during our trip!
At Ketchikan, AK seaport 05:55AM, 09.21.12 going to fish
Dressed up like an Alaskan fisherman!
 Sailing out of the harbor
That was my first time real salt-water fishing with my valid Alaskan fishing licence ($20). I was bottom fishing for rockfish, halibut, shark, and cod or just whatever we catch.
After a definite tug I reeled up my first silver-eye rockfish. So-so-happy!!
Cruising to a different spot after catching the limit of yellow-eye rockfish. The bait was sardine and the bottom was over 200 ft deep (70 meter)
 Hmmm....
 And a pink latex calamari:)
 Bence is focusing
 With a small fluke
The biggest catch on the boat! And a happy fisherman!
The crew:) Two Canadians and a Hungarian
The prey is waiting to be cleaned and prepared for us
 Tadamm!!!!!
No comment:) Like a boss.
Back to the wharf
That weird-looking piece of swimming fat is a seal:)
Norwegian Pearl
Victoria, British Columbia, CA - The Empress (just to visualize the prices there one cup of tea costs $75:)
Mansion and house prices are around 20-30 Million $ at certain neighborhoods. This is the Florida of Canada. Not bad:)
The farewell party with the washy-washy team. Every time you went to eat they sprayed hand sanitized into your palm and said WASHY-WASHY-HAPPY-HAPPY, it was so funny!
I went to sleep at this point...to be continued:) One day later at 00:42 AM continuing updating the post. So there were 6 restaurants on the cruise that you had to actually reserve a table and pay specialty fee for that service. We usually went to eat to the complimentary restaurants and buffets but we said we have to try the most exclusive restaurant on the boat, the original Japanese one. So I booked a table for two. You know it is very funny when you finally show up with a boy on your side:) 6-8 times random people asked us whether we are friends:):):) And we answered yes, we are. (What they thought who cares:) Anyway. Back to the coolest event on the cruise (at least for me). Why? Because it was special, customized, upscale, limited, original, authentic, delicious, pleasant, fun and satisfactory.
First you started with a fresh Japanese soup. I decided to eat as our Japanese tablemates, so I observed them for a while they were making origami. I tried to imitate them but could not make a chopstick holder, so the boss Japanese (there were a very strict hierarchy among them) came to me and showed how to do it well (you can see the small chopstickholder-boat in the background below). Then I got a present from the oldest Japanese lady, that was a Origami bird (I do not remember what kind) That is the way how we started the dinner. I ate even the soup with chopstick! I am not kidding!

Eating my first Japanese soup with chopsticks
The chef was warming-up a little bit with crazy knife acrobatics:)
YAY! Carrot, zucchini, potato, onion, lobster (real), shrimp, calamari, scallops!
Making a strike with the chef!
What do you think? I also was able to eat sticky rice with chopsticks!
The third course was a light dessert: green tea "brownie" and green tea ice-cream with a piece of caramelized sesame. Yummy!
Norwegian Pearl

On the bridge
The trip is over...Leaving the cruise in Vancouver
Yes, welcome to Canada!
And of course I had to take online health care quizzes. Just to be stylish I took them on the Sea-Tac Airport in Seattle. 94%, 94%, 100%.

I never compromise, I prioritize!
It maybe what others call work-life balance. Who knows what it is really? You have to find your way, that is what I am doing now.
:)
Keep going!

(Couple fin-tuning may will be delivered soon.)

09.04 - 09.09 - Farm tubing

I am sitting at Terminal A, Gate 11 of Bradley International Airport, which is the airport of Hartford, heading to Seattle to enjoy a one week Alaska cruising.
Now, I have a little time to write a post about my last week.
Lots of things happened to me again:)
1. I started to work at IntermerchantService on 4th of September as intern, am working on business development projects. The company is located in North Haven, that is quite close to my apartment (only 5 miles and 5 minutes away!). What they do is credit card processing, cash advance service and they are the distributor of the PhoneSwipe device that enables you to take any creditcards anywhere, anytime. If you are interested, have a look: www.imscash.com or phoneswipe.com. I am looking forward to help and work at IMS. It seems that I can have a deep insight on the credit card processing business.
On my first day at IMS
2. Andras and I went to play golf at a driving range near place close to us. That was my first time playing golf. Pretty cool! You just jump into your car after work and go out playing golf. On one day I will definitely have a driving range like this at home.
Andris while playing golf
Golf court crossing wild turkey family:D
Before we went to the gym, we decided to have a drink so we said hi to Jack Daniel from two Kentucky bourbon whiskey glasses and then we....

3. The weekend was a lot of fun again!
We were on the farm, Jeffrey, Alley, Xiao and Adris. We BBQd, had a lot of good food, drove quads.

Xiao is fishing first time in her life at the small pond of the farm
YAY, my first american catfish! The bait was a naked (bare) snail:)

08.29 - 09.03 - Third semester starts

Alright guys, let us see what i study at this semester.
1. Accounting for Managers - i hope i will like it, the book was 200$ so it should be very helpful this is on Monday nights

2. Business Decision Analysis (Multivariable Statistics) - regression, hmm, nice. it has two be easy after knowing this field already, but who knows:) - book is in the same price range, plus you have to buy an online course access for 95$:)

3. Foundation of Health Care Management - inspired after my brother. It is very interesting, i could like it, but learning something just online is terrible. Maybe I should read through the syllabus...I know, I know, I am lazy.

4. Quality Management HC Facilities - it will be online in the second half of the semester. I am thrilled!

That is about school. I had the first two in-class classes and they should be ok, no problem.

Every night we went somewhere or did something. Oh, and we welcomed two new HABL students! So now our family increased by 50%!!!!
I got a new job. I work at IMS (InterMerchantService) in North Haven. They provide credit card processing, cash advance program and much more. It is a very interesting

We decided with Andras that we go to the Mammoth Cave National Park, then Memphis, Arkansas, and Huntsville (Alabama). We had three days to do it. We planned it for 2300 miles, it ended with 2500 miles in 78 hours. Yes, we had three because this Monday was the Labor day that is a national holiday here. Xiao came with us and started our trip at 6pm on Friday. We arrived back on Monday midnight.

Here is our itinerary:
https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=208384584944504945124.0004c90f5e0c3d42bdca0&msa=0
4000 km, 78 hours, CT-AK-MI-AL-CT circle
With this trip I have been to three new states and reach the number of 27! These are the following: Arkansas, Mississippi and Alabama! Very cool!!!!!!!!!!!!
We have our plan with Andras how we are going to reach every state of the USA, even Alaska and Hawaii!
Alaska will be checked very soon!:) And we will be travelling around on the west coast sometimes during this semester. So if you are interested you can read some good posts.

Here are some pictures where we were:
1st Bourbon Whiskey Distillery in Kentucky, older than Jim Beam

 The shop
Glasses. My collection expanded by 6 new glasses

This is the South that I imagine
Ooops, the ferry didn't work because the river was almost dried up. On the other side there is the Mammoth Cave National Park entrance though... We had to go around, which took 42 minutes:D
In the cave, under the surface, on the Mammoth Cave Historic Tour. Did I mention that this cave system is the largest in the world? Yes, it is its length of 365 miles (more than 580 km). A huge sandstone cap did not let the water seep over the limestone and result the classic type of limestone cave with stalagmites and stalactites. Indeed, the water came from the side, dug horizontal tunnels and huge pits on five levels, drifted the dirt away and created this unique cave, the so called Mammoth Cave.
Sometimes it got narrow and low, made the tour more exciting.
Just to let you know 28 people died in that cave, the last one was in last September, a year ago. The main reason of death is heart failure. "People just came down who should not have..." - said the tour guide. The most famous story is the guy who have been buried 5 times already. Also there is a book about his life. His name is Floyd Collins - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Floyd_Collins. Incredible story.
As I said it got worse sometimes:)
At the historical entrance where in 1935 it was rediscovered again after several thousand years.

 Fascinating
 Chasing Isaac:D - the hurrican
The moment before fell down of the log and almost broke my knee...Stupid Bence. Really It was a scary situation. When I was falling down I hit my right knee two times and heard some kind of cracking and I thought, shit that was my knee!!!! But when I reached the ground, I realized that I can stand up, so it could not be a serious problem. It was not serious, but I am still barely able to walk. My knee hurts sometimes really bad. Anyway. It was fun and totally worth it. (I mean falling down was worth it:) Then I sat on the back seat and was treated by Xiao and even Andras:) Every time we stopped for gas or food I asked some ice and put it on my knee. The accident happened on Saturday and on Monday I was driving for 5 hours. What can I say? Life is fun!
It was a lovely diner! The best service I have ever got.
Nice!!! Wild turkey! The hunting season I think is due now.:D
 The home of Elvis Presley

Elvis's Mansion

Kitchen from the '60-s, fully equipped.

Elvis loved mirrors, those are everywhere in the house. The ceiling and even walls are covered with mirrors. The reason is double. First, you can optically extend your space. Second, you can enjoy yourself watching in the mirror, so everywhere. Not bad idea at all:D
With the King
The pool room, looks cool!!!!
The so called jungle room covered by couple dozens different types of wood
Ohh, just not to forget this: every I mean EVERY room has a bar in it!
What he just accomplished
Stutz Blackhawk '71- the toughest car
Elvis Mom's car - 1955 Cadillac Fleetwood Series 60
On Lisa Marie - named after her daugher

The journey continued on south, crossing Mississippi
Sweet home Alabama!
This is just a nice shot before getting into a serious thunderstorm, every night we were either in the prehurrican zone or actually in Isaac or just found couple other unknown storms:)
